Welcome to NarFFL 2023
The odds of winning your NarFFL league are 7.6923% (1 in 12). Looking across Premier, you have a 0.6897 (1 in 144) chance of winning the Horn in any given year. Less than a 1% chance that you, an obvious fantasy football expert, are going to be the singular name at the top of the list holding the horn. So it is obviously quite the achievement to end the year at the top of the list of Premier teams.
And then there is /u/mellcrisp of Bacon South who was not only the NarFFL Champion this year, but actually managed to win the crown in back to back years. The chance of being able to do that is .0048%. That’s about 1 in 20,000.
Things that are more likely to happen than winning the Horn twice:
- Getting a hole in one (1 in 5,000)
- Finding a four-leaf clover on the first try (1 in 10,000)
- Bowling a 300 (1 in 11,500)
- Winning an Academy Award (1 in 11,500)
- Being an American speaking Cherokee (1 in 15,000)
There are probably more interesting ways to demonstrate how difficult it is to win the horn twice, but I’m not a math person and they aren’t paying me for this, so you get what you get.

Before we get into the gritty details of the new year, we want to address the obvious elephant in the room that is Reddit. Simply stated, we don’t believe the reddit API changes will impact us at all given our usage, but we’d be lying if we didn’t say this has soured us on it as a platform.
We don’t know what it looks like yet, but discussions have already begun on what the potential future of NarFFL looks like. One of the possible examples is opening up the login authentication to be a combination of different options instead of requiring a reddit account. Nothing concrete yet, but we’re aware of a potential problem brewing and we’re trying to figure out how to keep this whole shebang running so you can keep torturing yourself with weekly start/sit decisions. In the meantime, make sure to connect on the NarFFL Discord as another means of getting info, announcements, or team Sakashi updates.
Now to the good stuff. 2023 NarFFL is kicking off! This year the lottery to join NarFFL opens on Friday, August 11th, at 3pm ET and will remain open for a window of 72 hours (3 days). Please note that it does not matter what time you enter the lotto during this span - it has no impact on your chance of winning a Farm team or on your place in the waitlist if you are not selected. The winners will be posted and notified on Monday, August 15th and you will have 48hrs to claim your spot. If you miss your invite your spot will be given away, so set a reminder, opt in to email notification on your NarFFL.com profile, and be sure to check back then!
New Players
First, to play you’ll need a reddit account that was created before Saturday July 23rd 2023. Head on over to NarFFL.com and login by hitting the orange box up in the corner, click it and follow the prompts to authorize us. Don’t worry, we only look at your account age and not your questionable browsing history.
Next you’ll want to set up an account on our league host Fleaflicker. We have used Flea for many years and they have consistently offered us more multi-league management functionality than any other fantasy platform. We don't allow a single user to have multiple NarFFL teams, so you should feel free to use an established Fleaflicker account if you already have one. Remember, you've got to own all of your past fantasy mistakes. It's the only way you'll get better.
Once you have your Fleaflicker account setup, take a moment and pop back over to your NarFFL User Profile and ensure that your Reddit Username, Fleaflicker Owner URL and Email Address are filled correctly on your NarFFL Account Info page. If that all looks good you are ready to enter the lotto!
Registration to join NarFFL is done via a lottery, which will open on Friday, August 11th, at 3pm EDT and will remain open for a window of 72 hours. Once that period ends, we will randomly pick from the lottery pool to fill the 576 vacancies in the NarFFL Farm league. To reiterate: you MUST have a Fleaflicker account before you enter. Your Reddit account must also have been created before July 23, 2023.
If you didn't get picked for the lottery, don't be sad! Your name will automatically be added to the waitlist, which is ordered randomly after the selection of the winners. That means that it does not matter what time you enter the lotto, it has no impact on your chance for a team. Any lottery spots that go unclaimed will be passed to the waitlist, as will any teams that get abandoned during the season. More on this below.
The (not so) fine print: The only data received using reddit authentication is your user name, account creation date, and karma score. No other private information is given to us, but, if you do want to get a little more personal, you can you can follow @NarFFL on twitter!
Returning Players
If you have avoided relegation and plan to reclaim your spot in the league you must log in to Fleaflicker by Tuesday, August 1st to avoid getting replaced.
If you do not plan to return, no action is required.
Filling Promotion & Relegation Spots
- Tuesday, Aug 1st - Boot and invite all promoted and relegated teams to their proper spots.
- Aug 5th - 15th waves of invites will go out for those that do not take their spots in time.
Lotto
- Friday, Aug 11th @ 3PM EDT - The lotto will open.
- Monday, Aug 14th @ 3PM EDT - The lotto will close. Invites to come shortly after.

Premier League
Size
144 teams - 12 leagues with 12 teams in each.

There is a default draft slot set for each of the Premier leagues - Labor Day Monday, September 4th at 3PM EDT. This is the long weekend before NFL Kickoff. This can be changed once there are 12 managers in the league and a majority can agree on a new date & time. Just have one of your league members fill out this form with the name of your league and the new date and time.
Playoffs
For each league, playoffs will be the standard format.
Relegation
Each league will have two relegated teams. To keep managers active that have not made it to the playoffs in their individual leagues, we are giving the winner and runner-up of the consolation playoffs (in each 12 man league) a pass on being relegated. The two relegated teams will be the two lowest ranked teams (by Fleaflicker) out of the remaining four consolation playoff teams. So that means even if a team finishes last in the regular season, they are able to escape relegation by making it to the consolation playoff championship game. The 24 Premier League managers are relegated to the Major League the following year.
Major League
Size
288 teams - 24 leagues with 12 teams in each.

Farm League
Size
576 teams - 48 leagues with 12 teams in each.
Members
Every year the Farm League will be comprised of new people. As opposed to the other tiers, no spot in the Farm League is guaranteed year to year.
Draft
There is a default draft slot set for each of the Farm leagues - Labor Day Monday, September 4th at 3PM EDT. This is the long weekend before NFL Kickoff. This can be changed once there are 12 managers in the league and a majority can agree on a new date & time. Just have one of your league members fill out this form with the name of your league and the new date and time.
Promotion
Two teams from each Farm league will be promoted to the Minor League the following year.
- The Champion
- The team with the highest single-week score during the regular season (excluding the Champion). That means that ANY team is capable of having a week that will get it promoted at any time. We chose this as our second criteria to keep everyone fully invested the whole year.
Relegation
All teams that are not promoted will be removed from the league in the off-season and will have to sign up again the following year.
Notes & Changes
17-Week Fantasy Schedule & Division Restructuring
Schedule and division structure will remain the same as 2022: The Fantasy Regular Season will run Weeks 1-14, with the Fantasy Playoffs in Weeks 15-17. Leagues will be divided into 3 divisions of 4 teams each. The 3 Division Winners and 3 Wildcard teams will make the playoffs, with a Week 15 Bye going to the top 2 teams in the league. We feel this format will serve to maintain healthy division rivalries while also giving the best teams in the league a chance to make the playoffs on record alone via the Wildcard.
Covid-IR
We’ve removed the COVID IR slot in rosters as that isn’t a designation in the NFL any longer.
Karma Chameleon
We have removed the 10 reddit karma requirement for lottery entry.
Unclaimed Spots
After the lottery is completed and returning players have signed into their accounts on Fleaflicker, some spots may be unfilled, either by players who decided to quit or by players that couldn't make the commitment. These spots are filled from the tier below based on rankings from the previous year (Majors->Premier, Minors->Majors, Farm->Minor, Waitlist->Farm) in a trickle-up fashion. Rankings are based on wins first, then points scored. An invite is good for 24 hours, after which it will go to the next person in line. This is a first come first served promotion. An invite is not a guarantee of a spot.
A note from Fleaflicker
"Please let your users know this: They must reset their draft rankings to "Redraft" right before the draft if they want to use our most up-to-date rankings or else they'll use whatever rankings we had when you went live and activated the league... Note that their custom draft rankings will be erased by doing this, but it's the best way to get our experts' rankings before the draft if they have none, etc."
